myPassword - helping you stay safe online

In celebration of Safer Internet Day 2012, we would like to help out with a few tips for keeping passwords safe in the classroom! Have fun, and stay safe.

When someone else finds out your password...

If you aren't careful with your passwords, it isn't just people's feelings that can be hurt - all of your accounts are at risk.

Don't use the same password for different accounts!

To help you play it safe, we have a few Dos and Don'ts to follow:

Don't

Don't write your password down anywhere
Don't use words around the computer area, or written on the computer
Don't choose anything that people can easily guess, like family names, pet names, or date of birth
Don't choose a single word from the dictionary - these are vulnerable to hacking attacks
Don't leave yourself logged in to school computers

Do

Use whole phrases that are easy to remember - e.g. "Cakeismyfavouritefood"
Use combinations of words and numbers, such as "Fun4you" Use words with additional letters - e.g. "HhappyBbirthday" Using 4 random words that you can remember is one of the most secure passwords, like "wolfkitchenskycamera"
Keep an eye out for people looking over your shoulder!
