To ensure that your SmoothWall system is kept up to date with the latest security patches, Feature Packs and subscriptions (Guardian blocklist, anti-virus and anti-spam subscriptions); all licenses and subscriptions must be renewed on an annual basis (Annual Renewal).

The Annual Renewal (AR) provides customers with a series of Feature Packs which contain both new features and enhancements to existing features. Like security patches, these packs are automatically downloaded and applied via the web interface and do not require software reinstallation.

The initial license price of all SmoothWall 2008 products includes the supply of its Feature Packs and all applicable subscriptions for the following 12 months. After this first 12 months, Annual Renewals must be purchased for each SmoothWall product used, including the primary system (Network Guardian, Advanced Firewall, Corporate Firewall, School Guardian or SmoothGuard UTM) and all installed modules and subscriptions.

Annual Renewals are effective for a 12 month period that starts exactly 12 months after the initial license purchase - or the expiry date of the previous Annual Renewal. Prices are based on Annual Renewals being purchased within 60 days of this date - a reinstatement charge will apply after this date.

Annual Renewals can either be ordered via your SmoothWall Reseller Partner or from our internal sales team. Any modules or additional licenses that are ordered mid-way through the Annual Renewal 12 month period will be made co-terminus with the existing licenses so that they have a common renewal date.

PLEASE NOTE: Annual Renewal (AR) supersedes our previous Upgrade Assurance (UA) scheme - it is no longer possible to purchase Upgrade Assurance for any SmoothWall product that has been superseded by a 2008 product.

Guardian Blocklists incorporate content from the Internet Watch Foundation database and are updated automatically on a daily basis.
